Post by Wetroom Materials

Wet rooms designs have become very popular over the past two decades and have replaced the traditional plastic tray and cubical style shower.

Wet rooms allow you the flexibility to achieve an open plan, minimalist look along with level floor access. With no shower tray required it allows you to optimise the full potential of the room and create a fully tiled surface though out the bathroom.

Wet Rooms have been around for over a century in Scandinavia and the majority of the systems and products eliminate from this part of the world.  These products have evolved over the years with the centre floor drains been replaced by wall-mounted linear drains that can be tiled into and therefore completely hide the old fashioned stainless steel drain.

It is important to stress the importance of using the right Drains, Flooring, Waterproofing and Tile Adhesives in these environments. It is a combination of all these materials that make wet room function effectively once installed correctly.

The ideal modern wet room has large tiles, fewer grout lines, wall mounted drains so there is no need to stand on the drain while in the shower as well as easy to clean. A recent survey in England showed that a wet room has the potential to increase the value of a property by up to £10,000. It seems that there is a promising trend for wet rooms as an alternative to the shower cubical.
