The SharpDrain Range

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the SharpDrain Pro range and what problems does it solve?

The SharpDrain Pro range is WM's collection of specialist linear and point drains designed for projects where a conventional wet room drain or complete drain kit isn't the right solution. Rather than being supplied with a pre-formed floor former, SharpDrain Pro drains are intended to integrate with the contractor's own floor construction, making them particularly suitable for bespoke or technically demanding installations.

They are commonly specified where installation depth is restricted, where specialist floor finishes such as resin, microcement, polished concrete, or terrazzo are being used, or where unusually long or continuous drainage runs are required. The range also provides solutions for projects where the falls are being formed using screed or alternative floor construction methods rather than a proprietary former.

Every SharpDrain Pro drain is supplied with a factory-fitted waterproof membrane to simplify waterproofing around the drainage body and reduce one of the highest-risk areas for potential leaks.

What is the difference between SharpDrain Pro Linear, Square, PourFlex, Polished Concrete, and AptLine Pro?

Each SharpDrain Pro drain has been developed for a different floor construction or project requirement, so the right choice depends primarily on the finished floor type and drainage layout.

SharpDrain Pro Linear is the standard linear drain for tiled wet rooms, available in lengths from 500mm to 1500mm. It is designed for projects where the floor falls are being formed independently rather than using a pre-formed wet room tray.

SharpDrain Pro Square provides a compact point drain solution and is available in both shallow (76mm) and deep (230mm) versions, making it suitable where installation depth or drainage layout makes a square outlet more practical than a linear channel.

SharpDrain PourFlex has been developed specifically for resin and microcement floors. Its reversible insert allows the visible finish to change from a stainless steel panel to a pour insert, enabling the finished floor material to continue seamlessly across the drain cover.

SharpDrain Polished Concrete is designed to become permanently integrated within poured concrete and terrazzo floors. Rather than sitting on top of the finished surface, the drain is cast directly into the slab to create a robust, architectural drainage detail.

SharpDrain AptLine Pro is the most versatile option in the range. Manufactured from marine-grade 316 stainless steel, it can be cut to length on-site and connected at 45°, 90°, or 180° to create long continuous drainage channels or bespoke L-shaped layouts that would be difficult to achieve using standard drains.

Choosing the right model depends on the floor finish, available installation depth, required drain configuration, and whether the project requires a standard or fully bespoke drainage layout.

What drainage flow rates does the SharpDrain Pro range provide?

The SharpDrain Pro range offers a choice of drainage capacities to suit everything from standard domestic showers through to higher-output commercial installations. Most models provide a flow rate of 32 litres per minute as standard. Depending on the outlet selected, this can increase to 48 litres per minute with a horizontal outlet or 55 litres per minute with a vertical outlet.

Individual models vary slightly. SharpDrain Pro Square provides up to 48 litres per minute, while the Polished Concrete model delivers 36 litres per minute and AptLine Pro up to 31 litres per minute.

When specifying any wet room drain, it's important to ensure the drainage capacity comfortably exceeds the maximum output of the shower fittings. High-flow rainfall showerheads or multi-outlet systems may require the higher-capacity vertical outlet to maintain effective drainage and prevent water from pooling.

What is the shallowest drain depth available in the SharpDrain Pro range?

Where available floor depth is limited, installation depth often becomes one of the most important specification criteria.

The shallowest model in the SharpDrain Pro range is AptLine Pro, requiring a minimum installation depth of just 56mm. This makes it particularly useful in refurbishment projects, upper-floor bathrooms, and situations where structural alterations need to be kept to a minimum.

The SharpDrain Pro Linear follows closely with a minimum depth of 66mm, providing another practical option where floor build-up is restricted.

At the opposite end of the range, the SharpDrain Polished Concrete model requires a deeper installation depth of approximately 100mm because it is designed to become permanently integrated within the concrete pour.

Where floor depth is the primary constraint, discussing the project with a technical advisor before specification can help identify the most appropriate drain configuration and minimise unnecessary structural work.

What finishes are available across the SharpDrain Pro range?

The available finish options vary across the SharpDrain Pro range depending on the intended floor construction and application.

SharpDrain Pro Linear and SharpDrain Pro Square are available in Brushed Steel, Black, Brass, Nickel, and Bronze, all produced using durable PVD coatings that provide a premium appearance while offering excellent resistance to wear and corrosion. A Tile Line insert is also available where a more discreet finish is preferred, allowing the surrounding floor tile to continue across the removable drain cover.

SharpDrain PourFlex and AptLine Pro are supplied in brushed stainless steel, reflecting their focus on specialist flooring applications where durability and integration are more important than decorative colour finishes.

The SharpDrain Polished Concrete drain is concealed entirely within the poured floor, leaving only the drainage slot visible once the concrete has been finished. This creates one of the cleanest and most understated drainage details available for architectural concrete floors.

As with the wider SharpDrain Pro range, the choice of finish is primarily an aesthetic decision and does not affect the drainage performance or engineering of the system.
