What is a wetroom drain water trap and how does it work?

A water trap is used all bathroom products from baths and shower trays to sinks and toilets. The majority of these items will use a U bend / P Trap, which holds water in the pipe. The water prevents odours / gasses from travelling through the pipe and into the bathroom. As wet rooms are typically level access, this needs to be incorporated into the floor, where there is not a huge amount of space to install a U bend / P Trap. To deal with this, most outlets use removable traps which will hold 50mm of water or will have a mechanical spring trap which prevents / blocks odours.
